Very much loved wife of Roland, (Pud)... Mum to Michelle and Nick... and a good friend to so many people. A brave woman who faced her illness with a laugh and a smile. She will be greatly missed.

It was her request that those attending the service should wear bright colours, which was carried out unanimously. The church was filled with family and Jean' many friends. The moving celebration of Jean's life was concluded as she left the church by the playing of Eric Idle's 'Always look on the bright side of life' - causing everyone to smile and chuckle - a continuation of what she did in life. Refreshments were taken at The Lorna Doone Hotel.

There was a private funeral, held at the Mole Valley Green Burial Ground, near South Molton, on Monday 29th September 2014. Colourfully attired mourners gathered at the graveside to celebrate Phil's life, led by Humanist Celebrant, Kevin Murphy. Moving tributes were conveyed and Phil was laid to rest as the birds sang beautifully from the hedgerows.

RIGBY, Ian - Peacefully in North Devon Hospice on 1st July, aged 67 years.

The Funeral service took place at St. Mary Magdelene Church, Exford, on Tuesday 15th July 2014, at 11.30am. Attended by over 350 family and friends, the church was full. A public address sytem allowed the many outside to listen to the traditional service officiated by Reverend David Wier. Ian was laid to rest in the churchyard, carried there by family and close friends. Mourners were invited to take refreshments and share memories of Ian's life at Exford Village Hall.

FOWLER, Ida Annie - Peacefully in Blenheim Lodge Residential Home, Minehead, on Saturday 10th May, aged 99 years.

A Memorial Service took place at Porlock Methodist Chapel, on Tuesday 27th May 2014, at 3.00pm after an earlier private family service at Taunton Deane Crematorium. Family members read poems and shared many tributes to Ida. There was a significant musical theme which included recordings by talented family members. After the memorial service, family and friends took refreshments at the Lorna Doone Hotel, Porlock, where many happy memories were recounted.

SMITH, David Leslie - Passed away peacefully at the Bristol Royal Infirmary, on Friday 26th April, aged 68 years.

Much loved husband of Sharon & father to Andy, Chris and Rob, and a loving grandfather.

The Funeral Service took place at St. Dubricius Church, Porlock, on Tuesday 13th May 2014, at 2.00pm. This was a moving, family based service and attended by many in the Porlock community. A lovely touch was the fixing of artwork and tributes on David's coffin by his grandchildren. To reflect his service to this country while serving in the British Army, three Union Flags draped his coffin. These were folded and proudly presented to his sons at the conclusion of the service. Refreshments were taken afterwards at the Lorna Doone Hotel, where many happy memories were shared.

PERKINS,  John Ewart - formerly of Porlock Weir. Passed away with peace and dignity at Westerley Residential Care Home, Minehead, on 11th April, aged 92 years.

A beloved husband to Pamela for 70 years, a wonderful father to Andrea and Martyn, and an adored Grandpa and Great Grandpa.

A Service of celebration for John's life took place at Porlock Methodist Chapel, Porlock at 11.00am on Wednesday 23rd April 2014, followed by a private family internment at Porlock Cemetary. John's final journey took him back to visit the place he was born 92 years ago. Justine Richards, the Minister, presided over a moving service with lots of music and favourite hymns. John Thorne, a close family friend for over 65 years provided those gathered with many memories of John's long life. Mourners were invited to take refreshments in the School Room at the chapel, where many more memories were shared.

TUCKER, Gerald Henry - of Parracombe. Peacefully at North Devon Hospital on 23rd March, aged 60 years.

The Funeral Service took place at Christ Church, Parracombe, at 2.00pm on Monday 14th April 2014. More than 200 mourners attended resulting in standing room only in the church. After Gerald's interment in the churchyard mourners took refreshments at The Old Station House Inn, Blackmoor Gate.

Vaughan, Richard - March 4th, peacefully in Mamsey House, Williton, aged 86 years.

Much loved husband of Margaret: his brother Matthew & family; his children David, Clare, Mary, Jane, John and Nancy; his thirteen grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

The Funeral Service took place at St. Dubricious Church, Porlock, on Friday 28th March 2014, at 2.30pm. Mourning dress was not necessary and many happily accepted the opportunity to colourfully celebrate Richard's life. Richard was a naturalist, and this was reflected most appropriately with a life long friend's reading of 'Afterwards' by Thomas Hardy, during the service. Interment at Porlock Parish Cemetary followed the service, and refreshments were taken at the Lorna Doone Hotel afterwards.

Much loved wife of Roger, and will be sadly missed by family and friends alike.

The Funeral Service took place at St. Mary Magdelene Church, Lynton at 12.00 midday on Friday 21st March 2014, and was followed by interment at Lynton Cemetary. So many mourners attended meant there was standing room only for the simple service celebrating Susannne's life. A period of reflection was accompanied by a favourite song of Susanne - 'Diamonds on the soles of my shoes', by Paul Simon. Refreshments afterwards were at The Rising Sun, Lynmouth.

The Rector, Reverend Bill Lemmey was assisted by Reverends Barry Prior and Stephen Humphries in carrying out the service celebrating Lesley's distingished, and (acknowledged), sometimes troubled life. Refreshments after the service were taken at The Lorna Doone Hotel, Porlock.

KNIGHT, Violet Dorothy (Vi) - January 6th, peacefully at Hembury Fort Nursing Home, near Honiton - formerly of Porlock - aged 91 years.

The Funeral Service took place at Porlock Methodist Church at 12.30pm on Monday 20th January 2014.  Family flowers were predominantly white with lots of purple blooms, Vi's favourite colour. A moving and musical celebration of Vi's life was followed by refreshments at The (Top) Ship Inn, where family and friends were able to share their fond memories.

WILLICOMBE, Gwendoline (Gwen) - Peacefully passed away in Musgrove Park Hospital, Taunton on 27th December, aged 96 years.

Gwen was a stalwart of the Church and it's many activities and as such the Choir sang a moving anthem in her honour during the service. A muffled peal of the church bells rang out also. Mourners gathered afterwards at The Lorna Doone Hotel for refreshments and the sharing of memories.

BLOYS, Richard George (known as George) - George, of Porlock, passed away peacefully at Aspen Court Nursing Home, Taunton, on 23rd November, aged 71 years.

The Funeral Service took place at St. Dubricius Church, Porlock, at 2.00pm on Friday 6th December 2013 filling the church with over 250 people. A wonderful gathering of mourners followed at Millers Bistro, Porlock, where many memories of George were shared and enjoyed. Family flowers only were requested for the funeral. There was, however, a lovely tribute that decorated his coffin consisting of a pair of decorated wellies.... so beloved of George. He was rarely seen not in shorts and wellies... whatever the time of year. A Porlock character, sadly missed.
